Conditions: Acne Scars

What are Acne Scars?

Acne scars are the result of inflamed blemishes caused by clogged pores. These pores get congested with a combination of excess sebum(oil), dead skin cells and bacteria. The pores then become inflamed and enlarged. Swelling causes a break in the follicle wall resulting in a small lesion.

Small lesions are usually minor and heal quickly, although deeper lesions which become infected can cause more visible marks on the skin surface. Naturally the skin will repair itself by creating new collagen fibres, unfortunately, with deeper or larger lesions caused by acne the skin can produce scar tissue during the natural healing process causing an acne scar and pigmentation.

Treatment Options for Acne Scars

We like to take a 360 approach with all skin concerns by combining treatments with skincare as well as naturopathic solutions such as supplements and IV therapy among other services.

Some of our most effective treatments for acne scars are Co2 laser, fraxel treatment, and microneedling (collagen induction therapy).

At Wellness ☤ Cosmetic Clinic by Body.Bar, we have several options for acne scar treatments, mainly depending on the depth of the scars. For superficial scars, it may be helpful to treat the outer layer of the skin, called the stratum corneum. Treatments such as chemical peels, microdermabrasion, carbon facial and Hydra Dermabrasion can address the outer layer of the skin.

For deeper scars, non-surgical options typically include ablative and non-ablative laser skin resurfacing such as Co2 laser/fraxel laser treatment, ND Yag laser, IPL and microneedling (collagen induction therapy) treatments which are non-ablative services for effective scar reduction with minimal down-time, risks, and pain. A consultation will help determine which treatment is best for you.

With any in-clinical treatment received a detailed take home skincare routine will be recommended by a clinical expert to ensure the best possible results. Naturopathic services may be recommended to help with internal imbalances such as IV therapy, acupuncture, supplements and vitamins among other treatment options.
