What are Stretch Marks?

A stretch mark is a type of scar that develops when our skin stretches or shrinks quickly. The abrupt change causes the collagen and elastin, which support our skin, to rupture. As the skin heals, stretch marks may appear.

When stretch marks first appear, they tend to be red, purple, pink, reddish-brown, or dark brown, depending on your skin colour. Early stretch marks may feel slightly raised and can be itchy.

Treatment Options for Stretch Marks

There are many products on the market which claim to remove or reduce stretch marks topically, although some of these products may temporarily smooth the appearance or slightly lighten the mark, generally there is not much that can be done with topical skincare products alone. Our most effective treatments for cellulite include fraxel laser, this laser is a fractionated, non-ablative laser that stimulates collagen to regenerate and remodel in the deep tissue.

Superficial skin tightening and toning can also improve the appearance of stretch marks. Radio-frequency treatments help with fat reduction, tightening, and toning of the skin.
